It’s Raining.... Paint? Students painted with drips onto the paper’s surface with water colors and water. A paper was taped over the surface to block out the area where they and their umbrella would be placed. Each student added color and pattern to an umbrella paper and poses for their picture. Next class we will put it all together!
Only One You Fish This project is a personal favorite for one of our students, because Billy loves to look at the book Only One You when he comes in the art room. We first painted our fish, and once they were dry added patterns and details using either paint or oil pastels.
Clay Rattles students added pattern and texture to their clay pieces. Next, they wrapped little clay pieces in paper and sandwiched them between the two larger. To finish the rattle, they squeeze the edges together.
Paper Sculptures Students worked with their peer tutors to create their sculpture using different techniques shown by our student teacher Miss Sarah!
We love our time in Art!
Special Olympics Art Show Students had a chance to check out their work at Northgate Mall where the art show was hosted.
Hearts Students made a colorful heart by crumpling tissue paper and gluing it to the paper.
Eric Carle Owls Students created a collage of owls at night using papers they had made themselves. On the first day of the project, students went from table to table exploring printing with a variety of odds and ends such as potato mashers, bath scrubbies, bubble wrap, cookie cutters, and sponges. Next, they splatter painted a dark color paper to create stars in a night sky. The following class we looked at the illustrations by Eric Carle. Carle also made his own papers for his collage illustrations. Student created a tree branch and an owl. To finish the project, students added supporting details to their owl and the background. What we learned: -texture -printing -using shapes to make a whole object -collage
Clay Bowls and heart ornaments Students created a clay heart ornament for a family member and for their peer tutors first. Then we made bowls by rolling out clay balls and pressing them into a mold to form the bowl. In a later class, students painted their glaze colors on the bowl. The bowls are currently being displayed in the front hall glass case.
Winter gifts... not a lot of photos since they are gifts :) They are just some action shots!
Winter Landscape Students painted watered down glue over tissue paper to make their 'tree' paper, and then painted and splatter painted the back ground. The following class, students put together the entire image to create a landscape of trees in the snow.
Pop Art Hand Prints We looked at the art work of Andy Warhol, a famous Pop artist. Students had their hands traced, and then they colored them in with oil pastels and painted them. To finish the pop art look, they printed their hand on top.
Painting Pumpkins!
Pumpkin Collage
Fall Trees Students used sponge printing to create fall leaves of trees.
Leaf Printing and Painting Students printed leaves with brown acrylic. Once dry, they painted the leaves with fall colors.
Weaving with our Peer Tutors!
Art To Remember This fall, the art room is creating art work to send in to a company called Art to Remember. The company offers the families in our building the opportunity to purchase items with their student's art work on it (like coffee mugs, keys chains, mouse pads, tote bags, ornaments, etc...). And as an added bonus, 25% of the proceeds go directly to our art class for the purhcase of additional art tools and supplies! Mrs. Neisen and Peter's classes created a close up portrait of a monster inspired by the book "Love Monster." We started by drawing out the monster using shapes and lines. Then students used crayon to color in small spaces, and they added water color for the rest.
