Hallway Makeover A group of 5th graders are helping to give the hallway a new look outside the art room and library. So far, students have torn objects off the wall from and old mural, and then primers the walls. Next, they used a mixture of blues to create the ocean water. Upcoming- ocean floor, seaweed and coral!
Art To Remember This fall, the art room is creating art work to send in to a company called Art to Remember. The company offers the families in our building the opportunity to purchase items with their student's art work on it (like coffee mugs, keys chains, mouse pads, tote bags, ornaments, etc...). And as an added bonus, 25% of the proceeds go directly to our art class for the purhcase of additional art tools and supplies! More information will be coming home. For now, we are getting the art work started! Check out the individual class pages to see what we are doing!
The DOT Each class began the year reading the book, "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. It is a story about a little girl named Vashti. Vashti is apprehensive in art and says she can't draw. Her teacher inspires her to, "make a mark and see where it takes you." Vashti discovers how much she really is capable of creating. We spoke in class about just giving things a try in art. We also talked about how Vashti discovered something new when colors mixed. This was an chance to talk about viewing an 'oops' as an opportunity instead of a mistake. Each grade level approached their dot a little differently. The results are hanging in the hall and on our tree in my class room!
Starting Art off on the First Days of School...
All the classes started the first day of art by making a small little piece of art work. They painted a popsicle stick that will be used in 3 ways this year- as an attendance stick, a name tag, and at the end of the year we will make a school wide piece of artwork with our sticks!
